Ah, the start of spring is finally here! The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and your home is probably in need of some thorough cleaning. Spring cleaning is an important part of keeping your home a healthy and comfortable place to live. And it doesn't have to be daunting! The first step is a solid approach, and we've got one ready-made.
1. Make a plan: Start by making a list of everything you need to clean and the order you’ll do it in. This will help you stay organized and on track. If you’re really feeling type A, give yourself a time limit for each activity and see how closely you can stick to your schedule.
2. Set a goal: Give yourself an objective for how much you want to accomplish in a day. And then incentivize yourself with a little reward when you make it through your list—it could be a favorite meal, a glass of wine, or just some much-deserved couch-time.
3. Gather supplies: Make sure you have all the necessary tools for a thorough clean— sponges, scrub brushes, vacuum cleaner, and multi-surface cleaning solutions. Get a caddy to organize the small stuff and keep those clean vibes rolling.
4. Work from top to bottom: Start by dusting and cleaning the ceiling and walls, then move on to blinds, counters, furniture, and floors. Order does matter! Dust and dirt will filter down to lower surfaces as you go.
5. Clean out closets and drawers: The best part! Take the time to sort through your closets and drawers as you move from room to room. Donate items you don’t need and organize the rest. (Make sure you track the date and value of your donations. That can come in handy during tax time.)
6. Clean windows and blinds, then vacuum and mop: Arm yourself with the right surface and upholstery cleaners (or make your own), then go to town wiping down counters, windows, and blinds before vacuuming carpets, rugs, and upholstery and mopping hard floors.
7. Don’t forget the little things: Take the time to clean light switches, doorknobs, and other small surfaces. While these might not be on your radar on the daily, they contribute to the overall sense of cleanliness in your home.
8. Give the atmosphere a refresh: nose-blindness is real! Indulge in some light room and upholstery sprays, or celebrate spring with a fresh bouquet of flowers in your entryway and kitchen to keep the scent of your home as clean as your surfaces.
9 Keep going: After you’ve finished the official spring cleaning, make a schedule of regular cleaning tasks to keep up with throughout the year.
